Monterey Jazz Festival, 9/16-18/05

My friend Dennis and I went to the Monterey Jazz Festival this weekend.

This is probably one of the top 10 jazz festivals in the world and it is certainly the longest running in America with a history of 48 straight years. I'll try to create a calendar with all the acts we saw, but it will be a while for me to get it all together.

Some highlights by day...

Friday
Jacqui Naylor's acoustic smash gig at the Garden Theatre
Benny Green & Russell Malone at the Starbucks Coffee House
Spanish Harlem Orchestra in the Main Arena
Sonny Rollins

Saturday
New Orleans Jazz Vipers
Mavis Staples
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings
Sheila Jordan-Steve Kuhn Duo
Tony Bennett - probably my overall favorite
John Scofield Band/Mavis Staples - "The Music of Ray Charles"

Sunday
Branford Marsalis and the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra
Stan Getz Fellows
Natasha Miller and her tribute gig to Bobby Sharp
Clairdee
Jon Jang Seven
Madeleine Peyroux
Pat Metheny
Denny Zeitlin Trio
