Visit to Austin, TX

I had the pleasure of making my first trip back to Austin, TX after a 13 month hiatus. I had to visit customers in Austin and Houston and then I extended the trip to see friends.

Even with the business meetings we found time to enjoy some of the finer parts of Austin.

On Wednesday night I took some co-workers from Japan and San Jose to Guero's for dinner, then out to see Angela Strehli at "Blues on the Green" and then out in the Warehouse district to The Gingerman for a couple of pints. Guero's is one of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants on South Congress Avenue. It is known for great margaritas and really tasty Mexican fare. I had the red snapper - you can't miss with this dish!

On Thursday night we had a happy hour with our customer at Cool River. After the happy hour some of us went downtown to see "The New Hot Damn" at the "Unplugged at the Grove" music concert series at the Shady Grove. The New Hot Damn were fun. The band is made up of singer/songwriters Trish Murphy, Renee Woodward, and Kacy Crowley. The set had these three fine ladies on acoustic guitars. Get the Shady Ritas to get in the Austin spirit...

On Friday night I drove back in to town from Houston and hooked up with Peggy and Brian at their house in Cedar Park. Brian and I joined 10 others at Truluck's for a birthday dinner party for Jeff and I. The food was excellent as were the company, desert and wine... After dinner, Brian, Greg and I went to the Gingerman.

Saturday brought more warm weather, but we had lots planned for the day. Our first stop was Rudy's for breakfast tacos and then on to DKR Memorial Stadium for UT Football's fan appreciation day and the ORANGE/WHITE scrimmage. Brian and I joined about 20,000 other fans to watch the team scrimmage. The Longhorns are going to be National Champs this year - I can feel it! I ran in to David Featherston and was able to catch up goings on with our old neighbors. Next stop was Central Market for food for the boat party and for some fixings to take home. Central Market is a high-end grocery store known for its fine food, wine, baked goods and fresh veggies, meats, and fish. It is also rumored to be the 2nd most visited tourist attraction in the city. After the market, we headed to Jonestown park to launch Peggy & Brian's relatively new 20' Sea Ray on to Lake Travis. We met up with about a dozen other friends on two boats on the lake. Lots of laughs and Andrew even got in to his go-go dancing routine on the back of Jeff & Mike's boat (a 24' Tige zdrive). Kevin and Lara brought their guests on a 28' Hunter sailboat. Too much fun... Dinner was a BBQ at Andrew and Stephanie's house.

Sunday brought us to a day of relaxing after breakfast at Jardin Corona in Cedar Park. Great migas, chips and salsa.

I was sorry to be heading away from Austin - it won't be 13 months before I go back...
